Are you an early-career photographer or photojournalist based in New York City? Here’s your chance to take your creative journey to the next level with the Fall 2025 New York City Fellowship by Magnum Foundation.
This unique 12-week fellowship, running from late September/October to mid-December, offers a mix of hands-on experience, mentorship, and funding to support photographers working on meaningful visual storytelling projects. It’s not just about creating — it’s also about gaining valuable insight into how arts organizations operate behind the scenes.
What You’ll Get?
- $5,000 Production Grant: Awarded at the beginning of the fellowship to help fund the development and completion of your NYC-based documentary photography project.
- $25/hour Pay: For 16 hours a week of in-office work at Magnum Foundation, where you’ll contribute to real arts administration tasks.
- Mentorship: One-on-one guidance and project support from Magnum Foundation staff and professionals.
- Networking & Professional Growth: Opportunities to connect with communities, attend events, and explore new storytelling techniques.
Who Can Apply?
The fellowship is open to photographers of all ages who:
- Are based in New York City.
- Have completed at least one long-term project.
- May be self-taught, recent graduates, or just starting their photography careers.
- Have skills or experience in arts administration, writing, research, video production, or graphic design.
The selected fellows must work Wednesdays and Thursdays (16 hours/week) in the Magnum Foundation’s NYC office and be available for occasional evening events.
What You’ll Do?
Fellows will:
- Create a socially engaged photography project within NYC.
- Work on meaningful assignments such as research, multimedia production, and event organization.
- Gain real-world nonprofit arts experience.
This fellowship does not provide housing or transportation and is only open to those already living in NYC.
