Ireland Updated Application Document Checklist for Study Visa in July 2025

If you’re planning to pursue your studies in Ireland starting from late 2025 or 2026, it’s crucial to get your student visa application right the first time. The Embassy of Ireland has released an updated Study Visa Checklist in July 2025, and we’ve broken it down to help you prepare your documents accurately and avoid any delays or refusals.

Documents You Must Include in Your Ireland Study Visa Application

All documents must be in loose sheet format—no plastic folders, staples, or covers. Incomplete applications will not be accepted and may lead to visa refusal.

1# Signed and Dated Visa Application Form

Submit the completed form generated from the AVATS online system.

2# Passport and Photographs

  • Current passport and all previous passports
  • Two recent passport-sized photos
  • Copies of all pages from current and previous passports (including blank pages)

3# Visa Fee Payment Receipt

Proof of visa fee payment (cash and credit cards are not accepted).

4# Residency Card Copy

If applicable, provide a copy of your current residence permit.

5# Personal Application Letter

Must be signed and dated. It should state:

  • Full name, address, and contact details
  • Reasons for choosing Ireland
  • A commitment to abide by visa conditions, not rely on public services, and leave Ireland before the visa expires.

6# Letter of Acceptance from an Irish College

This must confirm:

  • Full-time enrollment (minimum 15 hours/week of daytime tuition)
  • Course details
  • Medical insurance (if arranged by the college)
  • A financial summary (FSF form – for long-stay visas only)

💡 Note: If course fees are below €6,000, full payment is required before applying. If over €6,000, you must pay at least that amount prior to applying.

7# Proof of Fee Payment

Provide an Electronic Transfer of Funds (ETF) receipt to the college’s Irish bank account. The document must list:

  • Sender and beneficiary details
  • OR a valid receipt from an approved payment service like “Pay to Study”

8# Academic Qualifications

Evidence that you are qualified to undertake the course.

9# Proof of English Language Ability

Documentation showing your proficiency in English.

10# Medical Insurance

  • If arranged by the college: Ensure it’s mentioned in the acceptance letter.
  • If arranged privately: Provide documentary proof.

11# Proof of Financial Support

You or your sponsor must show:

  • Immediate access to €7,000 (cost of living for one academic year)
  • For courses shorter than 6 months: €500/month or €3,000, whichever is lower.

12# Details of Any Previous Visa Refusals

Full disclosure is mandatory if you’ve been refused a visa in the past.
