Australia Updates Parent Visa Process in May 2025: Import Your Paper App to ImmiAccount Today
Great news for families navigating the Australian Parent visa process! The Department of Home Affairs has rolled out a significant enhancement to the ImmiAccount system, designed to make managing paper-based Parent visa applications much easier and more transparent.
As of April 24, 2025, if you’ve submitted a Parent visa application using the traditional paper forms, you now have the ability to link and manage your application digitally through your ImmiAccount once the Department has formally acknowledged receiving it.
This is a welcome step towards modernizing the visa process, blending the requirement for paper submission with the convenience of online management.
What Does This Change Mean for You?
While submitting the initial Parent visa application via paper form remains mandatory, this update introduces a powerful new option after submission. Once your application is received and acknowledged by the Department, you can import it into your ImmiAccount.
Doing so unlocks a suite of online tools, bringing much-needed digital convenience to what was previously a purely offline process post-submission. This update aims to make your visa journey smoother, potentially faster regarding correspondence, and certainly easier to track.
New Online Services Now at Your Fingertips
By importing your acknowledged paper application into ImmiAccount, you gain access to valuable online functions:
- Upload Supporting Documents Instantly: No more postal delays or uncertainty about document arrival. Upload necessary documents directly online.
- Direct Communication: Receive and view messages and requests from the Department within your ImmiAccount.
- Real-Time Updates: Easily update your personal details (like address or contact information) as needed.
- Check Your Application Status: Monitor the progress of your visa application anytime, anywhere.
Who Can Benefit from This Update?
This new digital management capability applies to:
- All new Parent visa applications submitted on paper from April 24, 2025 onwards (once acknowledged).
- Most existing paper-based Parent visa applications already lodged and acknowledged.
Important Exception: This feature is not available for Parent (subclass 103) visa applications that were lodged before November 2018.
How to Import Your Paper Application into ImmiAccount?
Ready to link your application? The Department of Home Affairs has provided guidance on how to do this.
- Submit your paper Parent visa application as required.

Why This is a Significant Improvement?
Previously, managing a paper-based Parent visa application involved relying heavily on postal mail, leading to potential delays in sending and receiving documents or correspondence. There was also limited visibility into the application’s real-time status.
This new “hybrid” approach bridges that gap. You still submit the required paper forms, but you gain the advantages of modern online tools for everything that follows. This means:
- Faster processing of submitted documents.
- Greater transparency on your application’s status and communications.
- Reduced stress and uncertainty during the waiting period.
This update represents a positive shift, offering Parent visa applicants greater control and convenience over their visa journey. If your application is eligible, we highly recommend taking advantage of this new ImmiAccount functionality.
